As previously rumored Panasonic did make an announcement today and there was no new S mount gear. We got a slightly update new compact TZ camera and a new minor update with a new G97 MFT camera:

Imagine this lens would have been on the market the same day of the S9 launch. Reception would have been much more positive don’t you think?
While I’m almost certain that “something” will be announced next week… but I’m still completely unsure what exactly is coming. For sure we know that Panasonic has filed for a new camera in Asia, so something will be coming soon anyway. But it’s strange to get an announcement just before Christmas, so I don’t think we’ll get a new full-frame S camera. Yesterday a new source told me that there will be a new TZ compact camera. But I also heard this from another (again new) source:
The incoming announcement from Lumix is a teaser for multiple cameras that will be announced in January
Again, these are rumors from new sources, so this could also be complete garbage. Nevertheless, we can hope that this source is spot on 🙂

As you know, Panasonic will make an announcement next week. I don’t think we will get something big like an S1HII or S1rII. It has never happened before that we have announced such a big camera a week before Christmas 🙂
A new source just told me this:
Next week’s announcement will be a Lumix TZ compact camera to compete against Canon SX740HS and G7X series. Stock towards end of Q1 next year.
Even though it’s a new source and we can’t be sure he’s right, I think this would make a lot more sense than an S camera announcement.
