A revolution to beat Fujifilm? The Lumix S9 new LUT and new APP functions explained!

With all the Lumix S9 camera buzz I didn’t highlight enough that the new LUT ecosystem is probably going to be the most important announcement from Panasonic! Their idea is to be able to compete and in some aspects overtrump the Fuji Film simulation system. Tomorrow (May 22) Panasonic will announce a completely newly develop LUT APP.

This app will have a ton of new LUT features.

  • The APP contains a collection of LUTs you can download.
  • It states whether they are developed for movies or stills and which basic setting is the basis (V-Log or Cinema standard …).
  • There are LUTs specified by Panasonic and some from film makers, creators etc. The collection is already huge and you can find film simulations as well as teal/orange effects etc.
  • In the app you can load the LUTs you want to use and sort them. Then you can send them to the camera, where you can call them up and scroll through them directly using the LUT button (of the Lumix S9) instead of going to the menu-
  • You can then place them on photos or videos, and with the V-Log recordings you can decide whether the video is recorded directly with this LUT or whether you – as with the professionals – only use it for viewing and then place it on the video on the computer. This is already implemented in the Lumix S5II or the Leica SL3 and the Q3 (real-time LUT).
  • But you can also use the new app to load your photos from the camera into the app and add any LUT you can think of from your collection and post it directly to social media.
  • There is also a new film format, MP4 lite. This allows you to download 4K videos to your mobile phone in a flash and either add the LUT or – if you have already recorded it with a LUT – post it directly to social media.

What do you think about that?

Curiosity on Google Trends: Lumix S9 is popular like the Fujifilm X100VI

Source: Google Trends

I am happy to report that the Lumix S9 searches now skyrocketed and are matching the FujiFilm X100VI searches. I’d like to think I played a small role in this 😉

Just saw the Lumix S9 for “real”… it is a “WINNER”…it is so much more than the sum of it parts!

Panasonic Lumix S9 reorder links (will open on May 22): Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, FotoErhardt, WexUK.

I just saw the “real life” Lumix S9 right now…but it’s late now and I am exhausted…so I cannot write a long post about it.

I saw the new prime lens, saw the images it takes, saw the new “LUT” capabilities…

And the honest and unbiased impression is that this is a “WINNER” camera!!!

The camera is more than the sum of it’s parts…much more. You can criticize single aspects, lack of EVF, mechanical shutter, the slow pancake lens. But it’s that kind of camera that once you hold it in your hands…you simply love it.

Leaked: Full Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 II lens pricing and specs

The Austrian Digitalstore already listed the E-mount version of the new Sigma lens. Specs are obviously valid for the L-mount version too!

A classic, further developed.

The SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG ON II I Art is SIGMA’s flagship lens that has evolved significantly from its predecessor, incorporating the most advanced technologies available to SIGMA from design to production. Compared to the previous SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG ON I Art, the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG ON III Art has improved resolving power throughout the zoom range and also benefits from functional improvements such as the addition of an aperture ring and high-speed AF with a newly developed AF motor, HLA (High-Response Linear Actuator). The lens is also around 7 % smaller and 10 % lighter. This 24-70mm F2.8 Art zoom lens is a versatile and powerful tool to help photographers and filmmakers realize their creative potential.

Versatile and powerful tool

The Sigma Art 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II is around 7% smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor. This makes it a versatile and powerful tool that allows photographers and filmmakers to realize their full creative potential.
The optical design of the lens includes 6 FLD glass elements, 2 SLD glass elements and 5 aspherical lens elements to thoroughly suppress various aberrations over the entire zoom range. Sagittal coma flicker in particular has been well controlled to achieve consistently high resolution right to the edge of the image. The effective correction of lateral chromatic aberrations enables high-resolution images without colour fringing.

Integration of 5 aspherical lenses

The use of 5 high-precision aspherical lenses enables high optical performance with minimal correction of aberrations and a compact optical design. High-precision aspherical molding technology at SIGMA’s sole production plant in Aizu enables the manufacture of the thin, highly polished aspherical lenses that are essential to the construction of this lens. This has led to greater freedom in optical design.

Outstanding close-up range

With a close focus distance of 17 cm at the wide-angle end and a maximum magnification of 1:2.7, the lens offers an excellent close focus distance, which is useful when composing close-ups of a subject or when photographing in tight spaces where it is difficult to maintain a good distance from the subject.

Minimizing flare and ghosting

Flare and ghosting, which affect image quality, have been largely eliminated using advanced simulation technology to ensure that the lens delivers rich, high-contrast results in all conditions. In addition, a nanopore coating and a super multi-layer coating have been used to suppress flare and ghosting as much as possible. The high backlight resistance enables clear and sharp images under all lighting conditions.
