Rumor from China: Panasonic Lumix S1H II to be released in Q4

Chinese Weibo rumor accounts report (Google translated text):

[Panasonic Lumix S1H II may be released in the fourth quarter] According to the latest news, after the release of GH7, Panasonic will update the S series full-frame body. According to previous rumors, Lumix S1H II is among them and is expected to be officially released this year (in the fourth quarter).

My take: Although I don’t have 100% confirmation, I am pretty sure we will have a new S1HII (or S2H) in 2024. And yes, it will probably have all the new features we saw on the GH7, such as ProRes Internal RAW, ARRI C-Log, Lumix LAB support, and so on.

There is also a second rumor circulating that the successor to the S1H will use the same 60MP sensor as the Leica SL3. I am almost certain that this is wrong and that the rumor confuses the successor to the S1R with the S1HII. My sources have told me that the successor to the S1R will definitely use the same sensor as the SL3.

That’s all for today, I hope my trusted sources can give me some information soon about when to expect the next camera announcement!

Curiosity: Panasonic removed Stock photos from the S9 and G100D website

As you know Panasonic used some Stock Photos shot on Nikon and Canon cameras to promote their Japanese Lumix S9 product page. Panasonic did now remove all of them from two product pages and openly shared the data. Small curiosity, there were such photos also on the G100D MFT camera page:

Lumix S9 website
Number of images on this site: 103
Image replacement: 8, Image deletion: 12, Credits and annotations added: 25

Lumix G100D website
Number of images on the site: 210
Image replacement: 2, Image deletion: 46, Credits and annotations added: 26

Panasonic S9 vs Sony A7cII “real life” comparison

Here are the first real size comparison pictures between the new Panasonic S9 and the Sony A7c cameras. Notice that the Sony has some room to further reduce the size of the camera due to the smaller mount. Panasonic can’t get smaller than this.

This is where I think the Panasonic outperforms the Sony:

  • I like the clean design of the Lumix S9. The A7c has a cheaper look and feel.
  • The Lumix has a great IBIS
  • OpenGate is super useful
  • From what I’ve seen, the APP integration works much better than Sony’s app.

That’s where I think the Sony is better than the Panasonic:

  • The A7c series has a built-in EVF (for a photographer this is a must).
  • The A7c series has a mechanical shutter
  • many more controls on the Sony
  • Far better autofocus performance
  • Many pancake AF lenses that the L-mount system does not have.
