Hot: Panasonic will announce a new Lumix L-mount cine compact camera in April ?

According to my trusted sources, Panasonic will announce a new L-mount full-frame camera with ‘video focus’ in April. And it sounds very likely that it will NOT be an S1H successor , but something else. The trusted sources have NOT yet shared any specs, camera names or other information. Ao now I’ll share information I’ve received from other new sources I’m working with. I’m still not sure, but I hope that after this article is published, trusted sources can confirm or deny the information I’m sharing now.

The new sources claim that it could be a Sony FX3 competitor, a very compact L-mount camera without an EVF with a fast 24MP stacked sensor. One of the sources claims he has heard that it could use the partially stacked sensor of this Nikon camera. However, I doubt this is true as I believe this sensor is used exclusively by Nikon as they developed it (and Sony manufactured it).

So to sum this up:

90% reliable info from trusted sources:

  • New Lumix FF video oriented camera is coming in April
  • It’s not a direct S1H successor

Rumors from new sources (unclear how reliable this can be):

What about the S1HII?

I have no idea if Panasonic still plans to announce a proper S1H successor. Basically, it should be an S1rII body with lower resolution, stacked sensor or better image quality and less rolling shutter issues, for example. All I know is that Panasonic has registered three new camera codes in Asia. So there are still many new cameras to be announced between April and probably late summer. One of them could be a compact camera with a fixed lens, which has been directly ‘teased’ by Panasonic managers in an interview.

Anyway, now is the time to comment on this post and let Panasonic know if you like the idea of a new compact cine camera… or if you still think a larger body with EVF, an S1HII, is needed!

Panasonic S1rII delivery start postponed to 31 March

The shipment start of the S1rII has been delayed to March 31 according to updated info at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama. The reason is simple: Panasonic Japan explained it in an official statement released last week:

Thank you for your continued patronage of Panasonic products.

We have received many more pre-orders than we expected for the full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera LUMIX “DC-S1RM2,” scheduled for release in late March. As a result, some customers who have already pre-ordered may not be able to receive their product on the release date. In
addition, customers who pre-order in the future may have to wait some time after the product is released before receiving it. We
sincerely apologize to customers who have been looking forward to the product and to all other related parties for any inconvenience this may cause.

We will make every effort to deliver the product as soon as possible in order to meet our customers’ expectations, and we ask for your understanding.

This is good news for Panasonic, slightly less good news for those of you who have pre-ordered the camera.

Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS lens review by PetaPixel

The new Sigma 16-300mm lens launch got a bit undermined by the gorgeous 300-600m launch and the curios BF camera. Chris from PetaPixel tested the E-mount version of this lens and concluded:

I expected the optical issues that are inherent to the design of a superzoom and despite them, still had a wonderful time traveling with the 16-300mm lens. All’s well that ends well when you go through your photos and treasure the results.

Behind the Scenes: Making the Sigma New York City Pop-Up (Shot on BF)

Sigma writes:

In March 2025, Sigma opened a cozy pop-up space in downtown New York City, specifically, at 21 Spring St. in Nolita. The space is dedicated to exhibiting the just-announced Sigma BF camera, a radically simple rethinking of the digital camera.
In this video, we watch the pop-up come together from the early placement of its centerpiece, to the assembly of the LED wall, to the preparation of staff, to various moments of opening day. Featuring, and shot with, the Sigma BF camera.
